This movement mainly trains traps, and also recruits Rear delts, Lats.
Same function as the barbell, but the weights hang at your sides rather than in front: the line of pull sits closer to the trap's vertical, and each side works alone.
Ten to fifteen reps. The variant to prefer when a bar fouls the thighs, or when one side is clearly weaker than the other.
Bending the elbows to help the weight up. It becomes a partial upright row, and the trap hands part of the load to the biceps.
