Hanging Leg Raise

Hanging Leg Raise — demonstration
Abs

PrimarySecondaryNot worked

This movement mainly trains abs.

What the movement loads

Hanging, the raise loads the lower portion of rectus abdominis — provided the pelvis actually tilts. The hip flexors lift the legs; the abs curl the pelvis.

How to load it

Eight to fifteen reps. Knees bent first, straight once the pelvis tilts without a fight — the other order mostly produces psoas work.

The recurring mistake

Raising the legs without curling the pelvis. The movement is then pure hip flexion, and the abs only hold position.
