This movement mainly trains biceps, and also recruits Forearms.
The preacher pad fixes the arm and removes any chance of swing. With the arm in front of the torso the long head works short: the exact opposite of the incline curl, and the two complement each other.
Ten to fifteen reps. The lowering counts at least as much as the lift — at the bottom, arm extended on the pad, tension is highest and control is not optional.
Letting the arm drop suddenly at the end of the descent. The elbow then takes the whole load at end range with no muscle holding it.
